Decorative Wall Plate Installations

A series of decorative stoneware wall plates. Each plate has been thrown and turned on the potter’s wheel.

Textured slips are applied to the surface of the plates, creating a landscape on which local materials are then applied. The local materials, collected along the East Coast of Ireland, are ground into pigments and fused to the surface of the plates in an electric kiln.

These plates act as map of sorts, a record of a journey through a landscape. The local materials not only give the pieces textural and tonal qualities, they also give them a sense of place, a direct material connection to their environment.
